Spring is finally here!
By Susan Agostini, R. EEG/EP T., CLTM, FASET
Greetings fellow members and colleagues,
Spring is finally here! Nice weather and colorful sceneries are starting to emerge! This was a rough winter for many and I think we are all ready for a warmer and more colorful backdrop.
This year started strong with our presence during the ACNS annual meeting in Las Vegas in February, where ASET President-elect Connie Kubiak and I met with the ACNS executive committee to share our annual report as well as update them on our strategic goals and the current work of our committees. We also discussed collaborative opportunities for the year. Our ASET Symposium “Setting Up for Success” that we offered at the ACNS annual meeting was extremely well received. I want to thank our colleagues ABRET Executive Director Janice Walbert, ABRET Past President Erik Padilla, R. EEG/EP T., CNIM, CLTM, MBA, and co-presenter Breanne Fisher, MSN, APN, CPNP-PC, from Children’s Hospital of Chicago, for their excellent presentations during this symposium, and of course our Director of Education Faye McNall for her excellent job planning and coordinating this event.
In March, our Board of Trustees met in Kansas City, home of ASET’s Headquarters, for our Mid-Year Board Meeting. It was a great session with productive discussions and brainstorming sessions. We welcome our new Global Initiatives Task Force (GITF), which has been charged with exploring and identifying ways to engage in global initiatives. We all headed back home recharged and ready for the successful completion of assigned tasks. As I hopped on the plane, I thought of how lucky ASET and I are to work with such an amazing and talented group of leaders volunteering to carry the ASET baton passed on by our great past presidents and board members. My wish is to see you as owners of ASET, come forward and join us by volunteering your skills, talents and ideas in any area that you are passionate about. We need YOU!
This takes me to our upcoming ASET elections! I would like to thank all who participated in the nomination of candidates. ASET relies on you to nominate the best candidates for those key positions. I want to exhort all members to exercise your right to vote for those candidates that you feel would best represent our organization. Be on the lookout this May for ASET’s invitation to vote!
Are you getting ready for Neurodiagnostic Awareness Week? It’s getting closer! April 14-20, 2019. How are you planning to show your pride for our profession and use the opportunity to educate everyone at your facility, including patients, on the work we do and our value? ASET has many resources including a video on “What is Neurodiagnostic Technology”. The ASET store has many items to recognize your Neurodiagnostic colleagues! Make sure to check them out before we run out!
ASET defines the mission of Neurodiagnostic Week as follows:
- Honor and thank neurodiagnostic professionals for their contributions
- Demonstrate the value of neurodiagnostic technologists in all healthcare settings
- Promote neurodiagnostics in the workplace and the community
- Increase awareness of neurological issues in all environments
- Educate and encourage prospective students about career opportunities and growth of the profession
I want to invite you to mark your calendars for this year’s ASET Annual Conference in August 15-17, 2019 at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. It will be a very special conference as ASET will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary! There is much excitement in the planning and coordination of this major event and you will not want to miss it! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a walk down memory lane?
Last but not least, I would like to send a special message to all my fellow technologists practicing Neurodiagnostics in my native island of Puerto Rico and those who had to move to the United States after the devastation left by the hurricanes. It has been more than a year, but I know that it has not been easy for you. You are an inspiration to many of us!
I am so excited for this year and the many great things that we will accomplish together!
Cheers, Susan
