ASET Position Statement

At its August 3, 2009 meeting, the ASET Board of Trustees voted unanimously to adopt the following position statement as recommended by the ASET Long Term Monitoring task force:

“An institution may allow Neurodiagnostic Technologists to inject radiopharmaceutical material for Ictal SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) under the following provisos:

It is in compliance with state health and safety codes.
It is in compliance with The Joint Commission standards for additional special procedures and the procedures of the institution.
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist has successfully completed the ABRET EEG Registration exams and holds a valid R. EEG T. credential.
Neurodiagnostic Technologists who perform these tasks have documented competency in electrographic ictal onset recognition.
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist is trained, certified, and monitored by the Radiology or Nuclear Radiology department in these areas:
1. Safety of the patient
2. Safety of the medical personnel working with radiopharmaceuticals
3. Quality of the test
The Neurodiagnostic Technologist must complete yearly competencies designed by the Radiology or Nuclear Radiology department.”
