She transitioned from EKG to EEG due to her interest in neurology. Porter highlighted her mentors, including Jean Bates and Faye Tyner, and her self-taught anatomy and physiology. She became president of the Southern EEG Society and Florida. Porter emphasized the advancements in neurodiagnostics, such as brain mapping and evoked potentials, and her pride in starting an EEG technology school.
