Why You Need to Be Involved

Whether it is the decision makers in your workplace or the elected officials writing the laws that impact your profession, they need to hear from you. If you don’t advocate for the profession and educate these decision makers, legislators, and the public about the importance of professional competency of neurodiagnostic technologists, no one else will. Without advocacy, you can potentially face any of the following working conditions: scope of practice encroachment from other professions, medical facilities hiring poorly qualified staff for neurodiagnostic procedures, or inappropriately low reimbursement rates.

Remember, the best voice for the profession is yours.
Ways to Be Involved

There are many ways to advocate and make your voice heard for the profession, and ASET is here to help. Whether it is letter writing, making presentations, requesting proclamations, or scheduling meetings with those making the decisions, ASET has the tools and the mentoring to make you a successful advocate. You also can serve on one of ASET’s two advocacy committees or learn to help track legislation and communicate with lawmakers in your home state or region. Get involved and become an advocate.
