It is with profound sadness that we remember Dr. David MacDonald, a leading figure in the field of intraoperative neurophysiology. His passing represents a significant loss to our community and the broader medical world.

Dr. MacDonald dedicated his career to safeguarding neurological function during surgical procedures, instrumental in shaping the evolution of intraoperative neuromonitoring into the structured and evidence-based practice we know today. As a Canadian neurologist and neurophysiologist, he was a pioneer in establishing intraoperative monitoring programs, contributing significantly to advancements across numerous surgical specialties, including neurosurgery, spine surgery, and vascular procedures.

A valued founding member and second president of the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (ISIN), Dr. MacDonald left an indelible mark on our field. His leadership and rigorous editorial guidance elevated the quality of research and helped establish internationally recognized guidelines for motor and somatosensory evoked potentials. He fostered a shared understanding among neurophysiologists, surgeons, and anesthesiologists, always with an unwavering focus on patient safety.

Beyond his technical expertise, Dr. MacDonald was a gifted educator and mentor.
