Sharing Our Neurodiagnostic Heritage with the World

The ASET Historical Advisory Committee (HAC) is working on collecting vintage recording equipment and valuable memorabilia from the early years of Neurodiagnostic Technology as well as prototypes of emerging technology. Lucy Sullivan, staff liaison for the HAC, met with Katherine Ott, PhD, Curator of the Division of Medicine and Science Division at the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution in March 2011. The Smithsonian Institution is interested in archiving neurodiagnostic items for actual and/or virtual display. We have a chance to truly preserve and share our heritage with the world.

Currently there is very little in the Smithsonian archives regarding neurodiagnostics. The museum has storage issues but would be interested in archiving EEG instruments especially an instrument that has a history behind it – it was used by a prominent electroencephalographer or for pioneering research.

Items that the museum would like to archive include:
  • Equipment manuals
  • Training manuals
  • Analog tracings
  • Pictures
  • Conference brochures
  • Comprehensive bibliography of most influential articles
  • Prototypes of equipment being currently developed

Please contact Connie Kubiak at conniekubiak1@gmail.com regarding any items you would like to donate.
The HAC is also conducting interviews of historical people in neurodiagnostics. If you would like to be interviewed or can recommend someone to be interviewed, please email Connie.
