On November 1st, CMS issued its anxiously-awaited final rule on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for calendar year 2020. In a change from its initial proposal, CMS has withdrawn the national pricing structure technical component RVUs for long term EEG CPT codes and decided to have them contractor priced for 2020. Next year, CMS will gather more data and potentially establish national pricing in a future rule.  This result makes it clear that our voices were heard by the agency when we expressed our concern about the reimbursement rates for these codes in their proposal. I would like to applaud and thank the more than 700 ASET members who took the time to send letters to their Members of Congress opposing the initial proposed rule. Your advocacy on behalf of our profession helped make a difference!

As you may know, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released its proposed rule for the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for CY2020 on July 29. Long term EEG monitoring CPT codes are included in this proposed rule which will take effect on January 1, 2020. ASET analyzed and evaluated the pertinent details of the proposal before developing and submitting organizational comments to CMS.  Visit the Legislative & Regulatory Action Center under the Advocacy Tab on the ASET website for updates to this important issue as they become available.”
