ASET - The Neurodiagnostic Society is the premier international professional association for individuals involved in the study and recording of electrical activity in the brain and nervous system. Organized in 1959, ASET's purposes are to provide leadership, advocacy and professional excellence for our members; create greater awareness of the profession; and establish standards and best practices to ensure quality patient care.
On November 1st, CMS issued its anxiously-awaited final rule on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for calendar year 2020. In a change from its initial proposal, CMS has withdrawn the national pricing structure technical component RVUs for long term EEG CPT codes and decided to have them contractor priced for 2020. Next year, CMS will gather more data and potentially establish national pricing in a future rule. This result makes it clear that our voices were heard by the agency when we expressed our concern about the reimbursement rates for these codes in their proposal. I would like to applaud and thank the more than 700 ASET members who took the time to send letters to their Members of Congress opposing the initial proposed rule. Your advocacy on behalf of our profession helped make a difference!
