ASET Announces New Executive Director
April 13, 2020
Dear ASET Members, Friends and Colleagues,
As ASET – The Neurodiagnostic Society enters into its 61st year, we are thrilled to introduce Kevin Helm as our new Executive Director to lead us in our mission to provide leadership, advocacy and resources that promote professional excellence, patient safety and quality of care in Neurodiagnostics.
“I’m very pleased to have been chosen as the next Executive Director for ASET. The Society has a rich and treasured history that serves as a foundation for a very bright future. I’m looking forward to joining and leading this great group of staff, volunteers and members as we meet the challenges ahead and discover important solutions that will meet the needs of our members and have a significant impact on the future of quality patient care. Although we are persevering through these difficult times of COVID-19 with limited social interactions, I’m hopeful I’ll be able to meet you and hear a little bit of your personal story at our Annual Conference in August. In the meantime, please know we’ll be doing all we can at the ASET office to continue finding ways to support you and the Neurodiagnostic profession.” – Kevin Helm, MBA, CAE
With over 25-years of experience in healthcare operations and management, Kevin brings a unique skillset to ASET; an intersection of experiences incorporating innovative educational tools, marketing strategy and national and global alliances with a shared mission to advance quality education and enhanced skills in the healthcare arena.
"I find Kevin personable, goal oriented and an embodiment of a ‘team first’ mindset. His experience working with Society governance, Boards of Directors and Staff, along with his experience in innovative educational technologies will only move ASET forward in its strategic initiatives and goals for the future. I, personally, cannot wait to see what Kevin has in mind for ASET as we start our 61st year!" – Connie Kubiak, ASET President
Prior to joining ASET, Kevin served as the Associate Executive Director with the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) based in Washington DC. At SSH, Kevin was integral to the development and growth of its operations, including a 20-30% growth in membership, annual revenues and Annual Meeting attendance each. Furthermore, he was actively involved in increasing national and international affiliate programs, increasing certification in 33 countries and accreditation of simulation centers in 11 countries.
During the last 4 years of his 15-year tenure with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), Kevin held three concurrent positions as Executive Director/CEO of the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, Senior Manager of the Graduate Medical Education Department and Assistant Director of the Residency Program Solutions Consulting Service. In these positions, Kevin successfully lead strategic planning processes, re-branding initiatives, reinvigorated dated leadership training programs, set record attendances at leadership conferences for chief residents, among many other achievements.
“I was drawn to Kevin’s infectious positive attitude and team approach. He has a calm and deliberate way of coming to solutions that is inclusive and thoughtful. He has strong Societal experiences that have made him very business savvy and also a people person. I am sincerely excited to work with Kevin and I know that he will do amazing things for ASET, helping us grow and navigate the uncharted waters ahead.” – Adam Kornegay, ASET President-elect.
Kevin holds an MBA with emphases in Marketing and Healthcare Administration and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). As a committed volunteer himself, he is a 21-year member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and currently serves as President-elect for the Kansas City Society of Association Executives (KCSAE), where he has served as Secretary of the association, on the Membership
Committee and regularly participates in the monthly CEO roundtable.
Kevin lives in Lees Summit, MO with his wife, Margaret, and three children, Kyle, Kate, and Jack.
Throughout his tenure in association management, Kevin remains a strong proponent for finding strength in teams, the principles of servant leadership and providing excellent member service at all levels of an organization. The professional experience Kevin brings in organizational growth, volunteer engagement and process improvements to support member needs and his personal drive and enthusiasm for continuous learning and “envisioning possibilities” embodies an exciting future for ASET under his leadership.
We are excited to partner with Kevin to support and benefit our members, the Neurodiagnostic profession and the patients we ultimately serve to improve neurologic health and quality of care globally.
