Insular Lobe Seizures and EEG Correlations

Presented by Lynn Liu, MD

This presentation will focus on the structure and function of the insula and the EEG correlations related to insular lobe seizures. Seizures that originate in the insular lobe may manifest with diverse symptoms, including autonomic regulation, emotion processing, and sensorimotor integration and because the clinical presentation differs from person to person the diagnosis can be challenging. The combination of clinical history, seizure semiology, EEG and imaging techniques are helpful in determining appropriate treatment options which may include antiepileptic medications or, in some cases, surgical intervention.
