IONM 107: Intraoperative Neuromonitoring in Spine Surgery

This course is authored by Jay Shils, PhD. Dr Shils has recorded several hours of lectures covering the IONM of spine surgery. These lectures accompany reading assignments from the text, "Neurophysiology in Neurosurgery" by Vedran Deletis and Jay L. Shils and some readings in "Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring" by Aage Møller, PhD. 12 ASET CEUs are awarded for successful completion of the course.


This course is an overview of IONM in spine surgery. There are six recorded lectures for viewing online or in downloadable QuickTime movie format. To download the movies, viewers need QuickTime Pro ($29). The titles of the lectures are: Intro to IONM in Spine Surgery, Somatosensory Evoked Potentials, Monitoring the Motor Tracts in Spinal and Cranial Surgery, EMG, Anesthesia, and Decision Making in IONM. There are short exams after each lecture. This course is recommended for technologists who are learning the basics of spine IONM, but also it is a fast paced review for CNIMs seeking credits for recertification.
