CEU
-
- relevant to the field of neurodiagnostics;
- the program is presented in an organized learning format;
- the objectives of the program are stated and adhered to;
- the sponsoring organization assumes responsibility for the program, including capable direction, qualified instruction, and documented attendance; and
- the program is evaluated by the participants and organizers
-
Credentialing organizations, such as ABRET and BRPT, accept ASET CEUs to satisfy recertification requirements. Continuing education may be a condition of employment or part of an ongoing performance evaluation or promotion process. Additionally, you may be asked to provide proof of your education and training by a prospective employer to document occupational competence.
-
Organizations use different terminology and various criteria for professional development. A “CEU” stands for continuing education unit. ASET CEUs are granted to educational programs and offerings that meet high quality standards for neurodiagnostic professional education after an application and review process. These are approved after a comprehensive review of the content and speaker’s qualifications.
-
ASET ONLY tracks programs and meetings from entities that have applied for ASET CEUs. Such organizations will advertise that the meeting qualifies for ASET CEUs. Other events will not be recorded and will not be reflected on your transcript. Check with the hospital or sponsoring organization to determine if their program has applied for ASET CEUs. This does not mean that other events will not count for recertification from credentialing organizations. For more information, refer to Question 15.
-
Refer to Question 4.
-
ASET members can view their ASET CEU transcript online. If you are an ASET member, log in to your account with your username and password; from your profile page, click on transcript link and then ASET education credits. You will see your earned ASET CEUs on this page and can download your transcript. The ASET CEU database is consistently being updated – please allow 4 weeks for ASET CEUs to populate to your transcript. If you feel your transcript is incorrect, please contact Charlene Layer, ASET’s Education Coordinator: [email protected]; 816-631-9728.
-
With institutional memberships, each employee has their own ASET ID number and individual member log-in information. To access your ASET CEU transcript, log in to your account with your username and password; from your profile page, click on transcript link and then ASET education credits. You will see your earned ASET CEUs on this page and can download your transcript.
-
I am not a member of ASET. Do you still track my ASET CEUs? How can I access my ASET CEU transcript?
ASET will track ASET CEUs for non-members on the condition that you have created an ASET account and are providing an accurate ASET ID to each sponsoring organization. You can purchase an individual ASET CEU transcript via our store: ASET CEU Transcript. The cost is $30.
-
If you feel there is an error on your ASET CEU transcript, please contact Charlene Layer, ASET’s Education Coordinator at [email protected]; 816-631-9728. There may be several reasons for missing CEUs:
- The sponsoring organization did not apply for ASET CEUs for their educational event.
- You did not complete the attendance requirements or did not provide an accurate ASET ID to the sponsoring organization. If you received a certificate of participation/attendance from the sponsoring entity, you can email it to Charlene at [email protected] for verification.
- The ASET CEUs have yet to be added to your ASET CEU transcript. The sponsoring organization of the program is responsible for submitting attendance rosters to ASET within three weeks of the completed program. It then takes approximately two weeks for ASET to enter the information, so please allow adequate time for the data to be entered into your record.
-
Make sure to submit information required for attendance for each educational event, as they differ among sponsoring organizations. Verify the accuracy of your ASET ID, which can be found on your profile page upon logging into your ASET account. If you encounter difficulties locating your ASET ID, email [email protected]. Do not list your ABRET registry number(s) in place of your ASET ID. Your ABRET registry number is different from your ASET ID.
-
No – we only record ASET CEUs on your ASET CEU transcript.
-
Typically, webinars are 1 hour in length and are awarded 1 ASET CEU.
-
You can earn 2 ASET CEUs by reading The Neurodiagnostic Journal and completing the quiz associated with the journal’s volume and edition. Click here for instructions.
-
You can submit an ASET CEU application to certify an education event/opportunity for ASET CEUs. We offer a variety of ASET CEU applications including applications for lecture series, webinars, conferences/seminars and more. Please visit our webpage about ASET CEU applications for more information.
Please note: ASET CEU applications can only be submitted for educational opportunities which will occur in the future. We do not accept applications for past events.
-
No – you must pass all the quizzes and final exam within the online course to earn ASET CEUs. If you fail, you may retake the course, however you will have to pay a registration fee to access the course again.
-
No – providing proof of continuing education is the responsibility of the individual. You can download your ASET CEU transcript directly from your ASET profile and upload it to ABRET’s credentialing manager. ASET CEU transcript access is free for members. Alternatively, non-members can purchase a one-time ASET CEU transcript via our store.
We do recommend keeping a file or folder containing certifications and records of the educational opportunities you have attended. Make sure to include the amount of CEUs earned from each opportunity.
-
ABRET, AAET, and BRPT accept ASET CEUs for recertification. However, it is important to understand what will and will not qualify for continuing education under their guidelines. Visit the credentialing organizations’ websites for further clarification and guidelines. Here are the links to their websites:
ABRET – Credentials: R. EEG T., R. EP T., CLTM, NA-CLTM, CNIM, CAP, CMEG
AAET – Credential: R. NCS T.
BPRT – Credential: RPSGT
-
There are individual requirements for each credential earned with ABRET, AAET or BPRT. Please visit their websites to read about the recertification requirements. See question 16 for direct links to each credentialing organization.
-
You have the option to print a certificate of completion once you achieve a passing grade and fulfill all the course requirements, including assignments, discussion forums, presentations, quizzes, and exams. Completed requirements will be indicated by checked circles. The instructions for printing the certificate can be found either below the final lesson or after the final exam. If you have a pop-up blocker on your computer, you must disable the pop-up blocker to access this certificate.
-
As of 1/1/2019 all R. EEG T., and R. EP T. lifetime certificates reverted to an expiration of 12/31/2023. By this date, you must apply for recertification by submitting 30 continuing education hours and a recertification fee to ABRET. You will then be issued a new certificate with your original credential number showing an expiration of 12/31/2028. At this point you will have entered the recertification process and going forward will submit the required number of CEUs every five years. For more information, please visit ABRET’s website.

The 63rd ASET Annual Conference will take place in Louisville, KY.
ASET-ABRET Leadership Academy
-
The Leadership Academy is a joint collaboration of ABRET – Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation and ASET – The Neurodiagnostic Society to address the needs of both organizations to prepare volunteers to move into leadership position by providing instruction in leadership skills. The mission of the academy is to develop the volunteer leadership necessary to ensure the long-term growth and advancement of both ABRET and ASET, and of the neurodiagnostic profession. While many of the skills you will learn through this academy will prove useful in your workplace professional development, the focus of the academy is on “volunteer” leadership training and the “business” of the two organizations. The goal of the academy is to establish and continually replenish a pool of candidates who are prepared to take on a range of volunteer positions in either or both organizations, and to ultimately become future leaders of the credentialing and accreditation board, and the society
-
The Academy is composed of a series of on-line modules, presented via ASET’s E-Learning portal. Enrollment is open throughout the calendar year. Interaction with faculty varies from course to course. At the end of each course you will be required to complete a brief exam
-
Participants are required to be actively employed in Neurodiagnostics (clinical practice, research, education or management) and a member in good standing of ASET. Participants are not required to hold an ABRET credential. However, in order to be considered for election to the ABRET board, the nominee must have an ABRET credential, or have a medical degree (M.D. or D.O.)
-
The course instructors are veteran neurodiagnostic professionals with ASET Board of Trustees and/or ABRET Board of Directors leadership experience, and member volunteers with teaching, training, laboratory management, and technical experience
-
There are 11 modules in the ASET|ABRET Leadership Academy program. The non-refundable registration fee is only $75 for the entire program
-
Participants work at their own speed but are expected to complete all the modules within one year to earn their Leadership Academy certificate. With the exception of the first module (Introduction to ASET and ABRET) and the final module (Leadership Skills), the courses may be completed in any order
-
The 11 modules comprising the ASET|ABRET Leadership Academy program are: Introduction to ASET and ABRET (must be completed first), Strategic Thinking, Corporate Compliance, Goal Setting, Communication, Team Development, Coaching, Conflict Management, Understanding Non-profit Financials, Networking for Success, Leadership Skills (must be completed last)
-
Because the Leadership Academy does not address technical skills in Neurodiagnostics or provide continuing education in the practice of Neurodiagnostics, completion of the program does not qualify for ASET-CEUs or contribute to ABRET education requirements needed to maintain your registry. The Academy focuses on skills identified as important for leaders involved in non-profit organizations, specifically ASET and ABRET.
-
The benefits of completing the ASET|ABRET Leadership Academy include development of leadership skills focused on the Neurodiagnostic organizations but which are transferable to other non-profit groups as well as in your personal/professional life. Participants will have the opportunity to learn specifically about ASET and ABRET, their missions and functions, and the rules which govern all non-profit organizations. Training will be provided in the essential basics and advanced leadership skills required for effective non-profit governance. Participants will learn about opportunities to serve the neurodiagnostic organizations. It is anticipated that graduates of the Academy will develop the skill sets required to take on the leadership roles to assure a bright future for both ASET and ABRET
-
Applicants should note that participation and/or completion of the Leadership Academy does not guarantee any position within either of the organizations, and there may be additional requirements to be eligible for appointment or nomination to a society position or office. However, graduates of the Leadership Academy will become part of a pool of qualified candidates from which committee members and chairpersons will be easily identified. Designation as a graduate of the Leadership Academy will provide proof of your commitment to the organizations, and a profound addition to your resume for nomination to board positions
-
Leadership Academy graduates will be recognized each year at the ASET annual conference business meeting

ASET members can view their ASET-CEUs Transcript online. If you are an ASET member, log in to the member login fields with your username and password and click on ASET-CEUs Transcript on the Member welcome page to view or print your current ASET-CEUs Transcript. The database is always being updated with new courses; however, if you feel your transcript is incorrect please contact the ASET Executive Office at [email protected]. ASET-CEUs awarded by outside organizations, may take 4-6 weeks to post to your account after we receive the attendance roster. Thank you for your patience.
-
Even with institutional memberships, each employee is given their own ASET ID number and individual member log in information. ASET-CEU transcripts are updated each Monday with completions from the previous week. To access your transcript as a member, log into www.aset.org then after being directed to the members only page select “My ASET-CEU Transcript”. This will open a PDF document that is downloadable.
-
ASET also tracks non-members but only if the writing is legible and a valid mailing address has been included on rosters. Non-members are charged $25 per transcript.
-
If you feel your transcript is in error or incomplete, contact the ASET Executive Office. There may be several reasons for this.
- The sponsoring organization of the program may not have applied for ASET-CEUs.
- You may not have signed in on an ASET-CEUs Roster; therefore, we have no way of knowing you attended. If you received a certificate of participation from the sponsoring entity, you can submit a copy of that information to ASET or have the meeting coordinator verify your participation to ASET, but the event must be approved for ASET-CEUs.
- It may be sooner than the attendance was processed. The sponsoring organization of the program is responsible for submitting attendance rosters to ASET within two weeks of the completed program. It then takes approximately two weeks for ASET to enter the information, so please allow adequate time for the data to be entered into your record.
- For non-members, we can update your record upon submission of information that confirms your attendance – as long as the program originally applied for ASET-CEUs.
-
Make certain you sign in on the attendance roster at any event. If you did not sign in on an ASET-CEUs Roster, we have no way of knowing you attended. If you received a certificate of participation from the sponsoring entity, you can then submit a copy of that information to ASET or have the meeting coordinator verify your participation to ASET, but the event must be approved for ASET-CEUs.
-
Typical webinars are 1 hour in length and are awarded 1 CEU. Extended webinars may be 3-12 CEUs depending on their length.
-
The ASET Journal quizzes are also available online. Journal quizzes are awarded two ASET-CEUs.
-
For one hour conference calls, ASET awards one ASET-CEUs. If you attend the live conference call seminar, your attendance record will serve as proof of your attendance. Each conference call seminar registration allows for one technologist to receive credit. And additional technologists may sign the roster, pay a $5 fee and receive credit as well. It is possible for several technologists to use a speaker phone and participate simultaneously.
-
No. You must pass all the tests included in the online course to earn the credits. If you fail you may retake the course, but you will have to pay the registrations fee to access the course again.
-
NO! Proof of continuing education and its accuracy for recertification is the responsibility of the individual. ASET recommends that you keep a file of meetings you have attended noting the number of credits issued for each event. It is also helpful to keep the meeting brochure as it typically lists the number of continuing education credits.
-
Typically, seminars, meetings and other forms of continuing education should address the specific discipline of the credential. ABRET, AAET, and BRPT are the credentialing organizations for the certifications noted. [ASET is the professional society representing neurodiagnostic technologists and we collaborate with all credentialing organizations.] While ABRET, AAET, and BRPT accept educational programs issuing ASET-CEUs, it is important to understand what does and does not qualify for continuing education under their guidelines. Visit the credentialing organizations’ websites for further clarification and guidelines.
ABRET – Credentials: R. EEG T., R. EP T., CLTM, CNIMAAET – Credentials: R.NCS.T. – All R.NCS.T.s before 2009 do not require recertification, all R.NCS.T.s after 2009 require 30 CEs every 5 years.BRPT – Credential: RPSGT -
Those who passed the written EEG and/or EP exam between 1997 and 2013, initially earned a 10-year credential and must submit 60 hours of continuing education by the end of the 10th year. After your first 10-year recertification, you will be issued a five-year credential with 30 hours of continuing education due by the end of the fifth year.
Technologists who have earned a CNIM and/or CLTM credential are awarded a five-year certification. To renew this credential, technologists must submit 50 hours of continuing education by the end of their fifth year. -
As of 1/1/2019 all R. EEG T., and R. EP T. lifetime certificates reverted to an expiration of 12/31/2023. By this date, you must apply for recertification by submitting 30 continuing education hours and the recertification fee. - relevant to the field of neurodiagnostics;
- the program is presented in an organized learning format;
- the objectives of the program are stated and adhered to;
- the sponsoring organization assumes responsibility for the program, including capable direction, qualified instruction, and documented attendance; and
- the program is evaluated by the participants and organizers
-
Credentialing organizations, such as ABRET and BRPT, accept ASET-CEUs to satisfy recertification requirements. Continuing education may be a condition of employment or part of an ongoing performance evaluation or promotion process. Additionally, you may be asked to provide proof of your education and training by a prospective employer to document occupational competence.
-
Organizations simply use different terminology and various criteria for professional development. A “CEU” stands for continuing education unit. For instance, the American Medical Association issues “CME’s” – Continuing Medical Education.
-
ASET ONLY tracks programs and meetings from entities that have applied for ASET-CEUs. Such organizations will advertise that the meeting qualifies for ASET-CEUs. Other events will not be recorded and will not be reflected on your transcript. Check with the hospital or sponsoring organization to determine if their program has applied for ASET-CEUs. This does not mean that other events will not count for recertification from credentialing organizations. For more information, refer to Question 15.
-
Refer to Question 4.
-
ASET members can view their ASET-CEUs Transcript online.
As of 1/1/2019 all R. EEG T., and R. EP T. lifetime certificates reverted to an expiration of 12/31/2023. By this date, you must apply for recertification by submitting 30 continuing education hours and the recertification fee. You will then be issued a new certificate with your original credential number showing an expiration of 12/31/2028. At this point you will have entered the recertification process and going forward will submit the required number of education hours every five years. All RPSGT & CCSH certification holders must recertify every five years in order to retain the use of their credentials. To recertify, RPSGTs & CCSHs must either earn 50 continuing education credits that follow the BRPT’s recertification guidelines during their 5-year credential window or retake and pass the exam before they are due to expire.

The 63rd ASET Annual Conference will take place in Louisville, KY.
